Privacy Notice
Last updated 27th August 2026.
This site is run by Ermal Asllani, an independent consultant based in Copenhagen, Denmark. I am the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach me at hello@ermalasllani.eu.
I collect as little as possible, I do not sell anything to anyone, and you can have it all deleted by asking.
| When you do this | I collect | Why, and on what legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Subscribe to the newsletter | Your email address, your name and organisation if you give them, and a record of your consent including the date and the wording you agreed to | To send you Behind the Mission. Issues cover the people side of mission-driven organisations and include links to my own resources, services and events. Your consent, under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and section 10 of the Danish Marketing Practices Act |
| Send me an enquiry or book a call | Your name, email address, organisation and whatever you tell me about your situation | To answer you, prepare for the conversation and, if we work together, to quote and deliver the work. Legitimate interest in responding to an enquiry, and performance of a contract once there is one |
| Become a client | Contract details, invoices and the correspondence around the project | To deliver the work, invoice for it and meet Danish bookkeeping law, which requires accounting records to be kept for five years |
| Just visit the site | Standard technical data such as IP address, browser and pages viewed, plus cookies where you have accepted them | To keep the site working and to understand which pages are read. Necessary cookies on the basis of legitimate interest, all others only with your consent |
Newsletter and marketing emails
Behind the Mission goes out every second week and it is written for people who run the people side of mission-driven organisations. An issue takes one idea and works it through, with examples from real projects.
Issues also point at my own things: published articles and project samples, and from time to time a service, a workshop or an event I am running. That is part of the newsletter rather than a separate mailing, so signing up means agreeing to receive it. I will not send you a standalone sales email on the strength of your subscription.
One practical note about how it reaches you today. Issues are published on LinkedIn, and the email field on this site collects addresses for the email edition, which has not started yet. So signing up here puts you on the list rather than in a send. When the email edition begins it will be sent with MailerLite, and the first email will be an issue of Behind the Mission, not something new you did not agree to.
What you will not get: a daily send, anything from another company, or your details passed to anyone for their own marketing. I do not sell, rent or share the list.
You can withdraw your consent at any time, using the unsubscribe link in any email or by writing to hello@ermalasllani.eu. Withdrawing stops all of it, and it is as easy as subscribing was. Once you unsubscribe I keep a minimal suppression record, which is your email address and the date, so that you are not accidentally added again.
Who else sees your data
I use a small number of service providers who process data on my behalf under a data processing agreement. They may only use it to provide the service to me.
Squarespace, which hosts this site, runs the newsletter and contact forms, stores the mailing list and provides the built-in visitor statistics.
Senser.net, which sends the email edition of Behind the Mission once it starts.
Google Meets, which runs the calendar on the Book a call page.
Notion, where I keep my own working notes, project records and the correspondence around enquiries and client work.
Billy for bookkeeping and Revolut for the business account, both of which see the details on your invoice if you become a client.
Squarespace and Notion are based in the United States and MailerLite is based in the EU. Where data leaves the EU or EEA, the transfer relies on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. I do not transfer personal data anywhere else, and I never disclose it to third parties for their own purposes, except where I am legally required to.
How long I keep it
Newsletter subscribers: for as long as you stay subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your details are removed from the list and only the suppression record remains.
Enquiries that do not lead to work: up to two years, so that I have context if you come back.
Client records: for the duration of the work, and then for five years after the end of the financial year, as Danish bookkeeping law requires.
Analytics data: held in Squarespace's built-in statistics for as long as this site is live. It is aggregated and I do not use it to identify anyone.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask me for a copy of the data I hold about you, ask me to correct it, ask me to delete it, ask me to restrict how I use it, and object to a particular use. Where the basis is consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time. Write to hello@ermalasllani.eu and you will get an answer within one month.
If you are not happy with how I have handled your data, you can complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency, Datatilsynet, Carl Jacobsens Vej 35, 2500 Valby, dt@datatilsynet.dk.
Cookies
A few cookies are needed for the site to work at all, including keeping it secure and remembering the cookie choice you made. Those are set on the basis of legitimate interest.
Everything else waits for you. On your first visit a banner asks you to accept cookies and similar technologies used for your browsing experience, security, analytics and customisation, or to manage them and choose which ones you allow. Analytics and customisation cookies are set only if you accept them.
You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's cookies in your browser, which brings the banner back so you can choose again. Refusing them does not stop you reading anything here.
The site is built on Squarespace, which sets these cookies on my behalf as my data processor.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects how your data is used, the date at the top changes and material changes are announced in the newsletter. Existing consent is not extended by an edit to this page. If I ever want to use your data for something the current consent does not cover, I will ask you again.
